Converge partnered with the Mississippi Reproductive Justice Coalition to host its first clinical pop-up event on the Repro Health Tour at the Jackson Medical Mall. Jackson was the first stop in a five-city tour focused on emphasizing the need to ensure all Mississippians have access to reliable and affordable health care, which should include comprehensive reproductive health care.
“Mississippians in almost every community are having a harder time accessing care because it’s not available, accessible, or affordable. The purpose of this tour is to meet people where they are and bring reproductive health care closer to home for more people,” said Tyler Harden, MRJC director. “Every Mississippian deserves to have the information, resources, and support they need to take control of their health, their lives, and their future.”
During the first Repro Health Tour event, licensed medical providers from GetPersonal, a clinical care program funded by Converge, offered free services including physical exams, contraceptive and preconception counseling, pregnancy and STI testing, and vital sign checks. Reproductive health care advocates also distributed a three-month supply of Opill, the first over-the-counter birth control pill available in the U.S.
“Everyone in Mississippi should have the information and confidence to take an active role in their health, whether that’s scheduling health screenings or understanding what reproductive health care services are available,” said Renata Chatman, Medical Director at Converge. “Access to reliable and affordable reproductive health care saves lives, promotes public health by creating stronger, healthier communities, and addresses lingering health care disparities.”
